The Miriam Hospital Weight Loss Program

http://bit.ly/pMoxKA

With obesity on the rise in America and weight loss becoming a focus of an increasingly overweight population, some find themselves needing more help than others. Despite the seemingly endless array of diets, exercise programs and self-help tools, some people--particularly seriously obese people--may need more customized help.

The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, has gained acclaim for its weight-loss clinic.

The Miriam Hospital works with patients who are overweight at any level. However, it offers special support to the obese.

The Miriam program takes an inter-disciplinary approach to weight loss. Patients work with physicians, exercise physiologists, psychologists, dietitians and social workers. The team looks at every aspect of the patient's situation. Among the considerations are motivations and needs in eating and exercising, effective exercise plans, good nutrition as a basis of losing weight, and how to manage weight loss and weight maintenance in the world in which the patient lives.

Setting realistic goals - including weight, exercise, food and psychological goals - before you begin a weight loss plan is essential to a successful program.

Begin by setting some small daily goals. Your weight goal might be to lose 1 pound per week. If you hardly exercised in the past, you might want to walk around your neighborhood for 20 minutes every day. (If you like, split it into a 10-minute walk in the morning and another in the evening.) Your nutritional goal may be to reduce your fat intake. Your psychological goal may be to write in a journal every day.

Establish intermediate goals that are a little more ambitious than your original goals. For instance, two weeks after you begin to meet your daily 20-minute walk goal, extend your goal to a daily 1-hour walk; start eating smaller portions at every meal; and seek counseling for any self-esteem issues you might have.

Everybody seems to have a secret for losing weight. The truth is, in order to achieve and maintain a significant weight loss, you need to burn more calories than you consume. Flaxseed products may be able to help you. The oil is a powerful antioxidant that can help boost your metabolism. Whole or ground flaxseed provides you with dietary fiber that makes you feel fuller and omega-3 fatty acids that can possibly curb cravings for sweets.

Start your journey to weight loss by making smart decisions about the foods you eat. Bake or broil lean meats instead of frying them. Eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Adding flaxseed to an already healthy diet will aid weight loss much more than simply using flaxseed and maintaining poor habits.

Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of flaxseed oil to a large glass of water and mix well. If you do not care for the nutty flavor of the oil, use low-calorie juice instead of water. Drink one glass of the mixture every day to benefit from the high levels of omega-3 fatty acids.

I learned of a new superfood called acai berry that is used for weight loss. Since I'm always wary of big weight loss claims made by certain companies, I decided to do some research before I actually jumped on board.

The verdict? I've discovered that acai berry is filled with vitamins and minerals that can aid in weight loss, building muscle and increasing overall energy-and is rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, fiber and other plant compounds that can increase your health.

I don't believe that acai Berries hold a "magic key" that will help you lose weight, but it will help make your body healthy. When your body is healthy and well-balanced, it will be easier to reach your perfect weight.

Tips for Stomach Fat Loss

http://bit.ly/qnGGIi

Losing stomach fat can be a frustrating and overwhelming goal for many people. It takes commitment both to diet and exercise to lose weight. Changing one's diet can be challenging but is essential to losing body fat. By decreasing the amount of "bad" foods and increasing the presence of natural foods in one's diet, as well as regularly exercising, one can accomplish the goal given enough patience and determination.

Some carbohydrates are good for you and will not interfere with weight loss. These include vegetables, fruit, rice and oats. Foods containing refined flour, like bread, pasta and cake, should be avoided. The body has difficulty processing large amounts of carbohydrates, which slows the metabolism. Excess carbohydrates are converted to sugar, which, if not burned off through exercise, contributes largely to stomach fat.

Opting for low-fat or low-calorie foods is an important part of any weight loss diet. If one's intake of fat and calories is more than one can burn in a workout, one will not lose weight. One strategy is to eat six small meals throughout the day, rather than three large ones. This will keep one's metabolism going and reduce one's cravings for fatty or high-calorie foods.

If your goal is to increase your metabolism, you must increase your body's need for energy. Eating foods that require extra energy to digest and metabolize is highly effective. It is also important to exercise and weight train, which stimulates the metabolism's "after burn" effect.

Aim for 45 minutes of exercise, 5 days a week to keep your metabolism at an elevated level. Two methods work best. Interval training is exercising hard in short bursts. In a 45-minute workout, exercise at a brisk pace for 10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of increased intensity. Repeat this three times to speed your metabolism. The second method is to exercise in 10-minute intervals four to five times per day to increase your metabolism throughout the day.

Muscles burn more calories than fat. Weight training every other day helps you to build lean muscle, which is one of the best ways to increase metabolism. When you add muscle to your body your metabolism works faster, resulting in quicker fat loss.

Reduction of belly fat requires a healthful diet to enable weight and fat loss and exercise to tone the underlying muscles and reduce visceral fat. Visceral fat is unseen and lies deep within your stomach, where it accumulates around your organs. Visible or subcutaneous fat lies just beneath the skin, and although it is unsightly, it does not pose the health problems associated with visceral fat.

There is no diet capable of targeting one area of the body for fat loss. Loss of belly fat occurs with overall fat reduction by following a sensible diet. MayoClinic.com suggests eating a diet that includes fresh fruits and vegetables and reducing your consumption of starchy carbohydrates such as breads and pastas made with refined flours. They also recommend limiting the amount of saturated fats found in meats and dairy while increasing the percentage of polyunsaturated fats found in nuts, seeds and plant oils such as sunflower seed, safflower, sesame and soy oil.

In July 2007, Diabetes Care published the results of a study by J.A. Paniagua, MD, Ph.D., et al, indicating the benefits of diets containing high monounsaturated fatty acids for preventing central or belly fat distribution. Plant oils such as olive, canola and peanut oil and avocados contain monounsaturated fats.

Diet is important for weight loss. As a bodybuilder, you must fuel your body properly and make sure it receives all the nutrition it needs. This will aid in proper weight loss. Nutrition is the foundation for success for bodybuilding and day-to-day performance. A good balance of foods is important as well, so the body doesn't get used to eating the same things, which in turn will cause it to metabolize slower.
